Don’t be fearful of the Elbow patient.  Get to understand how to assess and manage the Elbow better with Tanya Bell

The Ultimate Elbow Course

Elbow pain and dysfunction is rarely taught either at undergraduate or post graduate level, yet commonly presents in our practices. This 3-joint complex and its co-dependence on structures proximal and distal to it, often mystifies the practitioner, and the outcomes to management frequently frustrate both the practitioner as well as the patient. This 1 day course aims to settle uncertainties by examining the multistructural complexity of the elbow joint, as well as its relationship with the rest of the upper quarter.

We will tackle Clinical Anatomy & Biomechanics of the elbow as it should be applied in your treatment rooms. Common conditions that challenge the physio such as Lateral & Medial epicondylagia, the unstable elbow, the stiff elbow and the Throwing Elbow will be discussed. A critical review of current (2018) research into different treatments techniques and trends is included.

The relationship of the elbow to associated areas, such as the cervical and thoracic spine and the shoulder is investigated.

Some helpful assessment techniques and tools will be taught & practiced. Treatment techniques demonstrated include some that simultaneously target different structures, addressing the multistructural nature of most chronic elbow pain.
Finally, a detailed rehabilitation program is described for tendinopathies, the throwing elbow & the post-operative elbow.

The course participant receives detailed updated course notes & a thorough elbow assessment, designed by the presenter as part of her MSc dissertation.

In order to derive the most benefit, It is recommended that course attendees revise the clinical anatomy of the elbow joint complex prior to attending this course.

Attending this course does not allow you to call yourself a physiotherapist unless you have obtained the official qualification as stipulated by the Health Professions Council of South Africa”. Any skills obtained during this course can only be applied within the scope of practice of your profession. Please note that should you practice outside your scope of practice you will NOT be covered for malpractice (professional indemnity insurance).
