(BSc Physio (UCT), MSc Physio (WITS)

Tanya is a Manual Therapist (OMT), international lecturer and developer of the Groovi Movements Physio Software, a state-of-the-art system which has simplified the lives and offices of physiotherapists across the world.

She is a founder of Bell Rogers & Harris Physiotherapists and a Director of ‘Off Nicol Health Wellness & Rehab’ in Johannesburg, South Africa. Earlier career and life experience revolved around her position as physiotherapist for the SA Ladies Hockey Team and the South African Cricket Academy where she served as team physio at both the Commonwealth Games and the Sydney Olympics.

While learning under manual therapist Franne Mallen, her mentor and role model during the 1980s and 1990s, Tanya acquired both excellent diagnostic skills and comprehensive knowledge of human anatomy. She emphasizes the primacy of anatomy within her practice, stating, “Anatomy is honest. It’s objective. You visualise it as the means to get all the chess pieces onto the correct places on the board. If you can’t set the board up correctly, then you can’t play the game.”

Tanya went on to serve as an honorary lecturer at Wits University and has lectured and presented at orthopaedic congresses and physiotherapy workshops throughout South Africa, the Middle East, the United States, Holland, India and the UK. She has authored a number of online courses with an Advanced Professional Development Level 2 rating.

When asked about the future of physiotherapy, Tanya shares, “I see an exciting move away from surgery as a first-line management in patient care, with a move toward conservative management as the primary care pathway. This means better patient outcomes, fewer surgeries, reduced costs, and a better subgroup of patients who may require surgery only once the conservative route has failed.”

As she continues to study and instruct on the interplay of biomechanics and kinematics, Tanya promotes an integrated approach to injury treatment and prevention. Her main philosophy? Every individual should have the benefit of functioning optimally and pain-free, regardless of their level of athleticism. With a bit of willpower and the right professional support, people will continually surprise themselves by their own capacity to strengthen and heal. Tanya cites the proverb ‘smooth seas do not make skillful sailors’ and elaborates that “learning comes from adversity and challenges and constantly striving to grow!”

He is an Engineer and a Designer at Groovi Movements.

Clem studied Mechanical Engineering at Wits Technicon and then worked as a project engineer after graduation. He then moved onto a consulting firm where he worked in materials handling. He has a passion for learning and registered as a financial services provider in his later years. Being a man of many talents and interests, he then turned his attention to housing and built and developed various spec houses, including Off Nicol Health Wellness and Rehab in Johannesburg, South Africa, where his wife, Tanya is currently based in her physio practice.

Clem loves outdoor sports, snowboarding, mountain biking, surfing and water skiing, you name it and Clem has done it. He played and coached provincial volleyball and when he was younger he competed in the Beach Volleyball circuit. He is an advanced scuba diver with the Nitrox certification, but his sea sickness holds him back from doing this more regularly.

Clem is responsible for the design and manufacturing of the Groovi Products. Tanya tells him what products  and physio aids work and which ones don’t, he then works on improving those designs or providing alternate solutions. Clem is involved in the running of the business and does the support and sales for the Groovi Movements Physio Software. He looks forward to growing his skills as their business expands.

Administrative and Social Media Marketing.

Jane is the front-line face of Groovi Movements. She grew up in Zimbabwe where she completed her and schooling and tertiary studies. She then moved to South Africa in 2008 for greener pastures. She is now married with two amazing sons.

Jane is a people’s person and thrives in social settings. As the front-line face of Groovi Movements, she is often reminded of how much she enjoys meeting and working with a variety of interesting people. Working in this role for Groovi Movements has also allowed her to develop a passion for social media marketing as she goes from strength to strength in this department.

Jane often pays tribute to her late mom, who is her ultimate role model. She taught her to never give up on anything she wants to achieve, to always be strong and to not let the negativity of others affect you, but instead to use that as motivation to reach out and achieve your goals.

During her spare time, she enjoys cooking, travelling around the city and most importantly spending time with family and friends.
